Editorial
Food systems urgently need a makeover, and here’s why: they’re deeply tied to the global climate crisis. Food and agriculture contribute over 30% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and drive more than 80% of deforestation and biodiversity loss worldwide.
While up to 2.3 billion people struggle with moderate or severe food insecurity, more than 1 billion are obese, with diet-related diseases being the leading cause of death in many countries. Addressing these intertwined nature, climate, and nutrition issues demands a transformation in our food systems. Every country must craft and follow an integrated food systems transformation roadmap.
The world is crying out for sustainable and regenerative practices to cut greenhouse gas emissions, alongside regulatory changes and agricultural incentives to tackle food insecurity. This requires urgent collective action from businesses, governments, and stakeholders to build sustainable, resilient food systems that benefit both our health and the environment.
In this edition of “This Week in Consulting,” we aim to uncover answers and sustainable solutions to the growing demand for food from our expanding global population. We explore how to bring about positive changes in the food value chain and its ecosystem.
