This week was a good one for consulting M&A! We had deals involving some of the top companies in the industry, including PwC. Here’s a closer look at some of the most notable acquisitions that were announced this week.

#1. PwC purchases data consultancy Sagence

PwC US has purchased Sagence, a data management and analytics consultancy firm based in Chicago.

Sagence, which was founded in 2009, assists businesses in aligning data and business strategy, gaining insight through data science, managing data change, constructing data platforms, and deploying future data technologies.

The purchase of Sagence by PwC will boost the firm’s analytics insights business’ data planning and road-mapping offerings. Moreover, the move is part of PwC’s efforts to build its digital business, a crucial component of its five-year “The New Equation” plan.

#2. Bowman Consulting Group acquires Spatial Acuity

Bowman Consulting Group, a Reston, Virginia-based infrastructure engineering firm, has officially purchased Austin-based 3D modeling and reality capture firm Spatial Acuity.

Spatial Acuity, which was founded in 2015, offers 3D building information modeling (BIM) and high-definition scanning to owners, developers, and operators of private and public infrastructure. The company uses sophisticated geomatics equipment to deliver 3D digital models that are interactive and enable digital twins.

By acquiring Spatial Acuity, Bowman Consulting Group will improve its surveying and geospatial services, which include 3D laser scanning, data collection with drones, subsurface utility engineering, and GIS mapping.

#3. Smith + Howard receives strategic investment from Broad Sky Partners

Broad Sky Partners, a New York-based private equity firm specializing on mid-market business services and consumer industries, has made a strategic investment in Smith + Howard, an accounting and consulting firm based in Atlanta.

Smith + Howard, which was started in 1971, offers accounting, assurance, tax, and consultancy services. Internal audit, litigation support, process automation, cyber risk assessment, financial due diligence, and tax due diligence are among the firm’s advising services.

Through this strategic investment, Broad Sky is ready to hasten the expansion of Smith + Howard’s advisory services, geographic reach, and technological offerings.

#4. Good Leadership acquires leadership firm Interaction Dynamics Group

Good Leadership, a leadership consulting firm in Minneapolis, has acquired Interaction Dynamics Group (IDG), a leadership consulting firm in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania.

Interaction Dynamics Group was founded in 2013 by Kevin Sensenig and provides coaching, strategy creation, and strategy facilitation services. The eight coaches on the firm’s team work with clients across industries to enhance strategy, sales, team productivity, leadership culture, employee engagement, and career advancement.

As part of the deal, Kevin Sensenig will become president of Good Leadership. He will be in charge of the firm’s marketing and client relationship management, as well as the acquisition of new accounts.

#5. Other consulting M&A deals

  • HBR Consulting sells advisory practice to Renovus Capital Partners
  • Brennan IT acquires tech consultancy MOQdigital
